The most common passionfruit, the purple passionfruit, is a native of Brazil, Paraguay and Northern Argentina, with Brazil producing about 65% of global passionfruit production.

Although fresh passionfruit are also grown here in Australia, with the main fruiting season in summer, it can be time consuming and expensive to purchase and pulp fresh passionfruit as the prices fluctuate so much during the year.

Why is passionfruit such a popular flavour?

With its sweet-but-also-tart flavour and fragrant aroma, passionfruit brings a fresh vibrancy and a tart counter balance to sweet and creamy desserts, which is why it is universally adored as topping for our national dessert, pavlova and cream.

Passionfruit is a tropical fruit, so it also goes really well with other tropical flavours, such as mango, coconut or pineapple, as well as with citrus fruits: lime, lemon, mandarin and orange.
Passionfruit is also widely used in confectionery and in chocolate desserts as it is delicious paired with dark, milk and white chocolate.
