A deep red, water soluble powder obtained from the root of red beet (Beta vulgaris L.) by extraction, filtration, refining, concentration and spray-dried onto maltodextrin carrier derived from corn and/or potato. The major colouring principle is betanin.

Function / Dosage:

Water soluble food colouring suitable for ice cream confectionery jams jellies beverages and other products with low pH. Red to bluish red hue in the final product depending on the food product processing and the quantity used. Suggested labelling description: Colour (beetroot red) or Colour (Betanin (162)). Betanin content 0.29 to 0.33%%.

Shelf Life:

Protect from exposure to air and light. Keep the product cool (4-25ºC) in dry environments. Do not freeze. When a package has been opened it is recommended that the bag is resealed to avoid any exposure to humidity. Shelf life is 12 months in unopened containers.

Regulations:

This product is manufactured from ingredients conforming to FAO/WHO JECFA specifications. It shall at the time of delivery conform in every respect to the provisions of the Australia/NZ food standards and regulations made thereunder. AFIS does not use genetically modified organisms for the manufacture of their products and to the best of our knowledge the above product is manufactured from raw materials that have not been genetically modified. This product does not require labelling as a genetically modified food in accordance with FSANZ 1.5.2.
