AFIS Ingredients

Preservatives, emulsifiers, thickeners, vegetable gums and acids to improve the taste, texture, appearance and shelf life of your products.

In addition to our extensive range of food colours, food flavours, colorites, food pastes and essential oils, AFIS also supplies food ingredients to improve the taste, texture, appearance and shelf life of your products.

Our range of food ingredients include acidulants, antioxidants, aromatics, caramels, carriers, coffee, cocoa, emulsifiers, gums, preservatives, sweeteners and thickeners.

Acidulants

Acetic Acid is an acidity regulator, a flavouring additive, and can be used as a sour agent in your vinegar, pickled vegetables, sauce and as a raw material for spice.

Our Cola Acid Complex is a clear liquid with negligible aroma, used as a flavor enhancer in beverages to create a slightly tart, refreshing flavor that balances the sweetness in sodas, teas, juices, and other drinks.

Citric Acid is also a natural preservative, a water soluble acid and a great lemon juice substitute.

Antioxidants

Containing the flavour, aroma and antioxidant activity characteristic of rosemary, our Rosemary Extract can extend shelf life of your products by reducing the development of rancid off-flavours and retarding loss of colour and flavour.

Ascorbic Acid, also known as Vitamin C, is antimicrobial and an antioxidant in food products. With no odour and a sharp acidic taste, it is the most widely taken vitamin supplement and can be used as a source in supplements and food.

Aromatics

Our Menthol Crystals are extracted from peppermint oils and can be used as an additive to creams, balms and lotions to help provide temporary relief from muscle aches and pains. It gives a cooling effect to shaving balms, shampoos and conditioners.

Burnt Sugar is a dark brown viscous liquid with a burnt sugar colouring (dark golden brown), mild flavouring and typical aroma, used as a flavour/colour ingredient in foods, notably bakery products.

Ethyl vanillin possesses antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and has a vanilla odour four times that of vanillin, while vanillin is an alternative to vanilla extract commonly used to reduce production costs.

Caramels

A dark brown liquid that has the colour and texture of the caramel,Caramel Blackjack (Colour 150c) is great for soy sauce, pastries, cakes and biscuits.

Caramel NDS (Colour 150d) is also used to colour a wide variety of foods, most notably sauces and beverages such as cola.

Cocoa

Because alkalized cocoa (also known as Dutch cocoa) doesn’t react with alkaline leaveners, like baking soda to produce carbon dioxide, it’s suitable for confectionery, compound chocolate and bakery applications.

Natural Cocoa is made by roasting cacao beans and has a mild chocolate flavour and aroma. Free of added sugar, preservatives and any artificial additives, is non-GMO and is mainly used for compound chocolate, chocolate syrup and coatings.

Emulsifiers

Our emulsifiers help stabilize foods made with oil and water, like bottled dressings and shelf-stable frostings, and prevent ice crystals from forming in frozen foods like ice cream.

Emulsifiers also help foods like cookies and crackers maintain a light, tender texture by keeping oil and water bound together so the fat is uniformly distributed.

Use our cloud emulsion to give your beverages a thicker mouthfeel and an authentic fruit and vegetable experience.

Gums and thickeners

AFIS’s range of gums and thickeners will increase the viscosity of your food products without changing their taste.

Guar Gum is a thickener and stabiliser that is soluble in cold water. It retards ice crystal growth and has good stability during freeze-thaw cycles.

Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) has a high viscosity, dissolves rapidly in cold or warm water, and is a highly effective additive for improving product and processing characteristics in various fields, including food, technical applications and pharmaceuticals. Use it as a thickener, binder and stabilizer in a variety of foods and non-food products, such as toothpaste, laxatives, diet pills.

Xanthan Gum is a long-lasting highly effective stabiliser that produces solutions with a high degree of clarity and transparency, making it ideal if you want to offer long shelf-life products with no risk of separation and sedimentation.

Gum Acacia (also known as acacia gum, gum arabic, gum mimosa, gummi mimosae and gummi arabicum) is a natural substance widely used as a thickener or emulsifier to stabilise certain types of food products, as well as in pharmaceutical applications.

SAIB MCT (Sucrose Acetate Isobutyrate Medium Chain Triglyceride) is a clear, almost colourless, pourable viscous liquid, that pours readily at room temperature, making it ideal as a weighting agent in beverage emulsion manufacture where it increases the flavor stability and cloudy appearance of the beverage. Sprayable and water resistant, SAIB MCT is also used in cosmetics, hair care and skin care applications.

Preservatives

Potassium Sorbate is a white salt, soluble in water, that is primarily used as a food preservative. Potassium sorbate is effective in a variety of applications including food, wine, and personal-care products.

Potassium Sorbate solution is a clear liquid, usually very pale brown in colour, with no detectable odour, that prolongs the shelf life of foods by stopping the growth of mould, yeast, and fungi. It is used to inhibit moulds and yeasts in many foods, such as cheese, wine, yogurt, dried meats, apple cider, soft drinks, fruit drinks and baked goods.

Freely soluble in water, Sodium Benzoate is a white to off-white powder or granules with almost no odour. This water-soluble product is used as a preservative in processed foods and beverages to extend shelf life.

Sweeteners and carriers

Dextrose Monohydrate is a pure crystallised dextrose. It is used as a sweetener, a fermentation substrate, a humectant or a carrier in a large scope of applications such as confectionery, bakery, snacks, beverages and dairy products.

Glycerine (also known as glycerol) serves as a humectant, solvent, and sweetener, and may help preserve foods. It is also used as a filler in commercially prepared low-fat foods (e.g., cookies), and as a thickening agent in liqueurs. Glycerine also easily dissolves in water and alcohol and can be kept at room temperature for months.

Propylene Glycol is a viscous, colourless liquid, which is nearly odourless but possesses a faintly sweet taste.

Sorbitol (also known as sugar alcohol or polyol) is ideal for use in packaged foods and beverages to provide sweetness, texture and moisture retention.
